In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions or real media products?
We researched several many thrillers and decided to go down the route of murder/crime thriller. I feel we achieve this successfully and support current media conventions. Like other thriller texts ours creates a high level of tension, again supporting current media conventions.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media text represents different social groups. Our main audience is of course the younger generation of 15-24, the main cinema going age. The murder victim is a young blonde female which will attract mostly a male audience, but also a female audience who may be able to identify with her. The detective is also a character that people would be able to identify with, 24+ males would be able to. The crime element of our thriller will also help to attract an older audience just like the thriller aspect helps attract a younger audience.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Small media institutions would distribute our media text. There would be more than one company therefore no one will have complete control over it. A wide distribution could be achieved by doing this.
Who would be the audience for you media product?
Our main audience would be males between the ages of 15 and 24. As this is the main cinema going age. However an older audience would also be attracted by several elements in the film.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We chose a narrative that would attract a wide audience and which could develop into a high suspense media text. To create an atmosphere we used different sound effects and music. To attract a young audience we have young characters which they can relate to similarly for the older audience.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
As I have had previous experience with using camera equipment and editing software I already had a good knowledge of how to use them effectively. However I have now had more practise using them so I now feel more confident when using the camera or the editing software. I have also had to upload videos and pictures to my blog which I also now feel more confident doing. As well as uploading to my blog i had to upload to Youtube, which I now also feel more confident doing.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
We worked in the same groups for the preliminary task and the final task. As a result of this I feel our communication personally and as a group has improved exponentially, we now all feel confident expressing ideas and constructive criticisms. My understanding of media consumers has also greatly improved allowing me to improve my media work in the present and future.
